CHINSALI – UCZ LUBWA MISSION: 01/05/2026- “Education is the best equalizer”, President Hakainde Hichilema declared as he officially handed over a newly constructed 1×4 classroom block to the United Church of Zambia at Lubwa Mission, reaffirming the transformative power of education.
The handover ceremony of the classroom block at UCZ Lubwa Mission Primary School marked the fulfillment of a pledge by the First Family of President Hakainde Hichilema, aimed at improving access to quality education in the historic mission community.
Speaking during the event, the United Church of Zambia Synod Bishop, Rev. Bishop Festus Chulu, delivered a heartfelt address, expressing deep gratitude to the President and the First Family for the generous gesture.
“On behalf of the Synod of the United Church of Zambia, I stand with deep gratitude and sincere appreciation to Your Excellency and the First Family for the generous donation of this 1×4 classroom block,” he said.
He described the facility as more than just infrastructure, but a symbol of hope and opportunity for learners.
“This gift is more than a structure of bricks and mortar. It is a symbol of hope, opportunity, and commitment to the future of our children,” Rev. Bishop Chulu stated.
The Synod Bishop further commended President Hichilema for honoring his pledge, noting that the development reinforces confidence in leadership that listens and delivers.
He also highlighted the historical significance of Lubwa Mission, closely linked to Kenneth Kaunda, stating that the investment pays tribute to a legacy rooted in education, unity, and service.
“As the Church, we share the conviction that education is the greatest equaliser. Through education, barriers are broken, dreams are nurtured, and futures are transformed,” he added.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema emphasized the central role of education in personal and national development, drawing from his own life experience.
“Education is the best equalizer. The only inheritance I got from my family is education. Education opens doors,” he said.
He reflected on the legacy of Dr. Kaunda, noting that Lubwa Mission played a foundational role in shaping Zambia’s first President.
“There will be no Super Ken without UCZ Lubwa Mission School,” President Hichilema said, while encouraging citizens to give back to their communities.
“I didn’t do this because I am President, I did this because I believe in giving back to the community, the society that groomed us,” he added.
Earlier, Muchinga Province Minister Hon Njavwa Simutowe Mbala Mp underscored the importance of preserving the facility, urging the community to take ownership of the development.
“I wish to appeal to the community to protect this facility from vandalism and ensure it is guarded jealously,” he said.
The newly handed-over classroom block is expected to ease congestion and provide a more conducive learning environment for pupils, particularly in light of increased enrollment under the free education policy.
The ceremony not only marked the completion of a key infrastructure project but also highlighted the continued collaboration between government, the Church, and local communities in strengthening Zambia’s education sector.
