LUSAKA – UCZ GIDEON CONGREGATION- 02/08/2026The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) has officially inducted Rev. Mwelwa Mofya as Synod Information Technology, and Communications (ITC) Secretary during a service held at UCZ Gideon Congregation in Lusaka East Presbytery.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, Mr. Sila Siame said Rev. Mofya’s decision to leave behind opportunities in the private sector in response to God’s calling demonstrates that service to the Kingdom is greater than the pursuit of personal gain.
He noted that with Rev. Mofya’s experience in Information and Communications Technology, he could have pursued financial prosperity and a comfortable career in the corporate world, but instead chose to dedicate his knowledge, skills and youthful energy to serving the Church.
Mr. Siame described the decision as a powerful testimony of faith, adding that Rev. Mofya was helping to “change the narrative” by showing that God’s calling takes precedence over material rewards.
He further likened the newly inducted ICT Secretary to the biblical Nehemiah, saying that while Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, Rev. Mofya had been entrusted with building the Church’s digital infrastructure.
“In this era, you are our modern Nehemiah. Instead of rebuilding broken stone walls, you are building the digital walls, firewalls and communication networks of the United Church of Zambia to protect and advance the Gospel,” Mr. Siame said.
He encouraged Rev. Mofya to remain faithful in his ministry, assuring him that God would honour his sacrifice and commitment to the work of the Church.
Meanwhile, Lusaka East Presbytery Bishop Rev. Bishop Harriet Kapeya urged members of the Church to recognise that God equips those He calls into His service.
Preaching from Exodus 31:1–11 and 2 Timothy 3:14–17 under the theme, “Equipped for Every Good Work,” Rev. Bishop Kapeya said God does not consider human opinion when raising men and women for His work but instead equips them according to His divine purpose.
She encouraged Christians to celebrate the gifts and talents God places among His people rather than developing feelings of inferiority, adding that technology should be embraced as an instrument for advancing the Gospel.
Addressing Rev. Mofya, Rev. Bishop Kapeya said his calling was unique because it was guided by God and reminded him that ministry would present challenges, even in his new office.
She encouraged him to remain grounded in Scripture, drawing strength from God’s Word whenever challenges arise.
The Bishop also urged the newly inducted ICT Secretary to build a strong team around him, noting that effective leadership and ministry thrive through teamwork, collaboration and shared responsibility.
