REV. DR. CHARLES LUNGU INDUCTED FOR SECOND TERM AS COPPERBELT PRESBYTERY BISHOP

KITWE – UCZ NDEKE VILLAGE CONGREGATION: 29/12/2025- Rev. Dr. Charles Lungu has been inducted for a second term as Copperbelt Presbytery Bishop during a solemn service held on Sunday, 28th December 2025, at UCZ Ndeke Congregation in Kitwe.

The induction service drew clergy and church leaders from across the Church, among them Central Presbytery Bishop Rev. Laston Chisanga, Lusaka Presbytery Bishop Rev. Dr. Lordwell Siame, and Mukuba Presbytery Interim Bishop Rev. Hastings Mwenifumbo, as the Church gathered to affirm continuity in leadership.

Delivering the sermon, the UCZ Synod Bishop, Rev. Festus Chulu, preached under the theme “God Has Called Again,” drawn from Isaiah 6:1–8, 2 Timothy 4:2-5 and John 21:15–19. In his homily, Bishop Chulu emphasized that leadership in the Church demands continuous self-examination and renewed availability to God.

He noted that leadership is not defined by longevity in service but by one’s responsiveness to God’s call, adding that whatever God begins, He sustains. Bishop Chulu urged the Bishop to resist peer pressure, avoid being captured by material pursuits, and remain grounded in love, which he described as the foundation of Christian leadership.

He further challenged Rev. Dr. Lungu to embrace his second term as a season of “changing the narrative, moving from fear to faith.”

Meanwhile, the Guest of Honour, Commissioner Kephas Katongo, highlighted the dynamic role of a bishop, describing the office as both a symbol of unity within a Presbytery and a vital link between the Presbytery and the Synod. Speaking at the same event, Commissioner Katongo reflected on his personal interaction with Rev. Dr. Lungu during a period when Bishop Lungu presided over UCZ Ndola Main Congregation.

He commended the Bishop for his humility, noting that despite his leadership level, Rev. Dr. Lungu presented himself simply as a Reverend serving the people.

Commissioner Katongo cautioned congregants against celebrating the downfall of others, encouraging unity on the shared journey of faith, and warned against misleading church leadership through gossip.

He further advised the Bishop to expect diverse personalities in leadership, some supportive and others resistant, urging him not to lose heart but to remember that all remain God’s children.

He concluded by appealing to the Church to pray for the newly inducted Bishop, emphasizing that spiritual leadership equally depends on the prayers of the faithful.

The induction marked a significant moment for the Copperbelt Presbytery as Rev. Dr. Charles Lungu begins his second term of service, anchored in faith, unity, and renewed commitment to God’s calling.
