The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Western Presbytery is one of the oldest and largest Presbyteries within the Church, with a long and distinguished history of mission, evangelism, and community service. The Presbytery is currently led by Rev. Bishop Roy Kanchele, who serves as the Presbytery Bishop, with Rev. Samuel Phiri serving as the Presbytery Secretary.
Western Presbytery covers the entire Western Province and also extends into Kazung’ula and Livingstone districts of Southern Province, making it one of the most geographically expansive Presbyteries in the UCZ. Its wide coverage places the Presbytery at the heart of both rural and peri-urban mission work, with a strong emphasis on reaching communities that are often underserved.
Administratively, the Presbytery is composed of 24 Consistories, the majority of which are rural. This rural character shapes the Presbytery’s mission focus, with strong engagement in evangelism, community development, education, and health-related outreach. Through its congregations and church institutions, Western Presbytery continues to play a critical role in spiritual formation, social transformation, and the strengthening of Christian witness across the region.
Rooted in a rich missionary heritage and guided by committed leadership, the UCZ Western Presbytery remains a vital pillar of the Church’s work, faithfully advancing the mission of Christ while responding to the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
