The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Northern Presbytery is one of the foundational and expansive Presbyteries of the Church, with a rich legacy of faithful leadership and service. The Presbytery is currently led by Rev. George Sindaza, who serves as the Presbytery Bishop, with Rev. Simon Kocha serving as the Presbytery Secretary.
Over the years, Northern Presbytery has been guided by a succession of devoted Moderators and Bishops who have shaped its growth, stability, and mission outreach. Among those who have served the Presbytery are the late Rev. Noah Chulu, the late Rev. Rev. M. Chintu, and the late Rev. Ndawa, who served between 1978 and 1980. This was followed by Rev. L. D. Musyani, who served from 1981 to 1984, and the late Rev. Simon Nsangu Mutambo, who led the Presbytery from 1985 to 1988.
From 1989 to 1995, leadership was provided by Rev. Belington Kabaso, after which the late Rev. Samuel Mayani served briefly in 1996. The Presbytery was then led by Rev. L. C. Sikazwe from 1997 to 1999, followed by Rev. Mutale Mulumbwa, who served from 1999 to 2006. Rev. F. D. M. Silungwe took over leadership from 2006 to 2008, and Rev. C. Nkonde served from 2009 to 2016.
More recently, the Presbytery was led by Rev. Maybin Mulenga from 2017 to 2024, before the current leadership under Rev. George Sindaza, the incumbent Presbytery Bishop.
Throughout its history, Northern Presbytery has played a critical role in the expansion of the United Church of Zambia, particularly in areas that are largely rural and geographically vast. The Presbytery continues to be a strong pillar of evangelism, discipleship, and community engagement, responding to both spiritual and social needs of the communities it serves.
Under its current leadership, Northern Presbytery remains committed to strengthening congregations, nurturing leadership, and advancing the mission of the Church in line with the vision and values of the United Church of Zambia.
