The United Church of Zambia Eastern Presbytery is led by Rev. Jones Mwimba Mutembo, who serves as the Presbytery Bishop, with Rev. Brian Musongole serving as the Presbytery Secretary. The Presbytery was established after being carved out of Lusaka Presbytery, as part of the Church’s continued growth and need to strengthen pastoral oversight, mission work, and administrative effectiveness.
Since its formation, the Presbytery has been guided by only four Bishops, reflecting a history of stable and focused leadership. These include Rev. Alex Mwalilino, Rev. Jonathan Sikazwe, Rev. Martha Kapambwe Siame, and the current Bishop, Rev. Jones Mwimba Mutembo. Each has contributed significantly to shaping the Presbytery’s spiritual life, institutional development, and mission outreach.
The Presbytery continues to play an important role in advancing the mission of the UCZ through evangelism, discipleship, community engagement, and the strengthening of congregations and consistories under its care. Guided by the vision and values of the United Church of Zambia, the Presbytery remains committed to serving God’s people, responding to social and spiritual needs, and supporting the overall mission of the Church in a changing society.
