UCZ EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
The Education Department of the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) is responsible for the management and coordination of all UCZ schools across the country. The department is currently headed by Mr. Darius Mumba, the Education Secretary, who provides leadership in policy implementation, quality assurance, and the promotion of Christian education in line with the mission of the Church.
The seventeen (17) UCZ grant-aided schools are communities of faith and learning whose educational vision is to provide high-quality education while imparting strong moral, spiritual values, and life skills in accordance with the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grounded in the belief that the world is God’s creation and that human beings are made in His image and likeness, UCZ schools aim to develop learners holistically—mind, body, and soul—to their fullest potential within a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment.
UCZ schools operate within the framework of Statutory Instrument No. 43 of 1993, the Education (Aided Educational Institutions) Regulations, which guides their governance and administration. For over 60 years, UCZ mission schools have served Zambia by providing quality education at Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary levels, not only to members of the UCZ but to the wider Zambian society.
Despite often being located in areas of social and economic disadvantage, UCZ schools continue to make a significant contribution to narrowing the attainment gap, raising learner aspirations, and improving future employment and economic prospects. Many former pupils of UCZ mission schools have gone on to serve with distinction in Zambia and beyond, carrying forward the values, discipline, and virtues nurtured through their mission-based education.
