COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL JUSTICE DEPARTMENT
The Community Development and Social Justice Department (CDSJD) of the United Church of Zambia is mandated to promote holistic development, social justice, and care for the vulnerable within communities where the Church serves. The department is headed by Deaconess Mable Kifabantu Sichali, who works alongside Ms. Hellen Muma, the Programs Officer, in coordinating and implementing community-focused initiatives in line with the mission and values of the Church.
Rooted in the United Church of Zambia’s long-standing tradition of caring for the poor and marginalized, the department provides the Church with meaningful opportunities to respond to both spiritual and social needs within society. Drawing from the Church’s rich human resource base, the department designs and implements community development strategies that are community-driven, responding to needs identified by local people themselves.
The Community Development and Social Justice Department works collaboratively across all levels of the Church, bringing together the collective efforts of Ministers, Diaconal Workers, Evangelists, and Youth Workers. In addition, the department partners with lay professional Christians, peer educators, volunteers, teachers, counsellors, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen its impact.
Through these coordinated efforts, the department seeks to empower communities, uphold human dignity, and promote justice, ensuring that the Church remains a visible and active agent of transformation and hope in society.
