KABWE – UCZ DIAKONIA LODGE: 20/03/2026- The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Synod Committee Meetings have commenced in Kabwe under the theme “Changing the Narrative,” bringing together various committees to deliberate on the future direction of the Church.
The meetings, which are being held at The UCZ Diakonia executive Lodge in UCZ Central Presbytery, began on 20th March 2026 and are expected to conclude on 23rd March 2026.
Committees that sat today include the Lay Preachers Committee, Investment Committee, and the CTC/CBSI Committee, with all sessions chaired by the UCZ Synod Bishop, Rev. Bishop Festus Chulu.
In his opening remarks, Rev. Bishop Chulu emphasized that the theme is not merely a slogan but a call to deep reflection and transformation within the Church.
“The theme that we have is not a slogan, it is calling us to reflect before we reach a point where we feel strengthened, renewed and changed. Change does not happen overnight,” he said.
He noted that the UCZ, now 61 years old, has endured various challenges over the decades, but remains steadfast.
“For the past 60 years, the UCZ has been standing and has passed through a lot over the years, and it will not break now because the Lord who started this work is the same God who will see us through,” he added.
The Synod Bishop further called for unity and collective responsibility among members, urging them to put the Church first in all their undertakings.
“Let us not allow the enemy to divide us. What belongs to everyone does not belong to anyone; we all have a part and responsibility and must have a sense of ownership in everything that we do,” he said.
He reaffirmed that Christ remains the head of the Church and encouraged members to remain focused in their mission.
“Our forefathers did their part and handed over to us, and we will also hand over. Let us remain committed to making this Church grow,” Rev. Bishop Chulu said.
Meanwhile, the Synod Bishop acknowledged the challenges faced across different areas of service, encouraging members to remain steadfast in faith and action.
“Challenges are part of life; what is important is how we respond to them. Let us continue to pray for the Church and continue to do the right things wherever we are,” he said.
The Synod Committee Meetings are expected to continue over the coming days with further deliberations aimed at strengthening the mission and operations of the Church in line with the theme.
